This data is based on all picture submissions up through April 2009. Do you notice the pattern?
FAC's popularity peaked in 2006, and has been slowly declining ever since 2007. Our current rate of submissions is approximately 1/3 that it was in 2006.
Do you know why? There are a number of contributing factors, but IMHO the biggest two problems are:
- Lack of better site development. We didn't even have an official development team until last year.
- Lack of mature behavior by our userbase.
By #2 I am not meaning just the trolls, but roleplaying.
Yes, I said it.
I mean people who are constantly checking their profile pages and emails for new comments, people who are constantly posting back and forth, using our site's comment system like some RP chat or surrogate IM.
There's nothing wrong with socializing, but this constant stream of inane drivel between users A and Z, the endless cascade of mindless chatter from people seem to who eat, sleep, poop and breathe Fanart Central -- it's rotting the FAC community and scaring off any and all artists worth half a damn.
