The only thing we should probably agree on for sure is what we call the different things. For example, I tend to say 'Commbadge' instead of 'insignia' or 'communicator'.

I think we'll agree on most terms because we both watched TNG. I can't think of my other examples right now, besides DS9 having an 'infirmary' instead of a 'sickbay'.

I have to keep reminding myself. And some of the names, too. O'Brien (my computer wants it to be either O'brien or O'Brian), Curzon (I was guessing 'Kerzon'), and Neyrs (Had no idea there).

I've been brainstorming some storylines. Do you like any of them?

Parenthood: Lt. Dax is pregnant, but there's apparently no father. As the birth progresses rapidly and Dax is back to her old self in a day, they realize that an alien that visited Enterprise D is now visiting DS9. But this one is hostile...

From Whence You Came: Elemental aliens began attacking the wormhole with no luck. They alter their state to be fire, water, etc, defying the laws of space. But why do they want to attack the wormhole? The answer lies in an old Bajoran prophecy by a vedek who was defrocked.

Internal Polits: The station abruptly divides into politcal factions, each trying to take over control of the station. Only those in the infirmary, with it's superior shielding, are free from the odd influence.

Debate: The Ferengi have negotiated to buy Bajor- and under the influence of spiked synthehol, both the Kai and the Minister agree to the sale! Only Quark can save the day, with help from Kira. But Kira hates Quark, and asking for help is going to ruin her weekend, and probably bankrupt her.

They're all very good, but it leaves me to wonder where our characters fit in.... ;)

I don't personally have Holmes starring in each episode. In 'Parenthood', I have him being a potential father for Dax's child. And in the 'Internal Politics' idea, that one was written with Amy in mind.

In 'Debate' and 'From Whence You Came', I just kind of have everyone doing their thing.

But you can have Amy in a starring role in all of them; that's totally fine, of course :)

Ohhh, okay. I thought it was going to be more like yours and Andr28a's co-op, where it's written in the 'point-of-view' of your OC.

It can be. I've been writing them like the show, with each character getting starring roles and the like. I'm fine with doing it either way. What's more comfortable for you? It's your fic too; I'll feel guilty if I call the shots. (and no, this time it has nothing to do with you being female XD)

Well, it's been so long since I've even seen a single episode of DS9 that I'm really not familiar with the characters, how they interact with one another, how they think, and so on. So for now, it would probably be more comfortable if our OC's were the main characters. Which could change, once I finally get my hands on some DS9. I've been doing a thorough search, and the video rental store in my dad's town doesn't have ANYTHING Star Trek at ALL. I was so disappointed. I might be able to find some at home, but who knows. xD

Also, I've FINALLY gotten some alone time and am now busily typing up what I -have,- which I'll send, and then I'll get to work on finishing it. xD

That works for me^^ If you want any character bios/synopsis' I can pass those along. Our OC's can stay as the main focus, but if we need filler material, these might be good notes.

Some ideas that suit our OC's better (Keeping 'Parenthood' and 'Interal Politics' for now)

Division: A subspace fracture inexplicably forms and widens, threatning to destroy the station. Communications are down due to interference, and when Bashir investigates the problem, he finds that he and the other medical personnel are slightly out of phase with everyone else, save for Odo and Holmes, who are returning from Bajor. The question comes up: Is this a natural occurence? And what can be done to stop it?

Religious Tolerance: Amy and Kira offend Kai Winn and are being held on Bajor. Odo comes to their resuce, only to be imprisoned with them. Kira and Amy escape and try to get off the planet's surface. Holmes and Sisko come to help, believing that the 'Emissary' (Sisko) and (Can't give away Holmes' part yet) will be immune. That's when it becomes apparent that Bajor is under attack from within, and no one is sure that Kai Winn is really who she says she is. Sisko and Holmes can only help from the runabout, while Kira and Amy have to get away. But what about those suffering on Bajor? Kira's obligation as a military officer and Amy's obligation as a medic get in the way of their rescue.

Cramped Quarters: Terrorist acts beging to render parts of the Habitat Ring unusable. Tensions mount as people are forced to share quarters, but romance is also in the air as Dax and Holmes, Amy and Bashir, and Kira and Odo are paired up to stay together until the Habitat Ring is stable once again.

Hold that thought. xD If I don't respond for a while, I'm probably busily typing.

I used to have this really cool one that had Picard's voice sound when you tapped it.

Well, he'd definitely show her plenty of respect. He's got a good respect for medical personnel, at least partially because he's a baby about that sort of thing (as in, he can see injuries and be okay, but if you start talking organs or diseases, he gets a little squeamish). She's slightly older and female, so he'll be respectful.
What's her personality like when it comes to a command track ambitious type?

Well, a lot of them (in her eyes) are hot shots and attention seekers, so she'll probably talk down to him a bit at first (but politely).

She's not really good at socializing in general, and wary of men as a whole.

That should be a good dynamic to play off. So maybe something like this:

Holmes: Good evening, Ensign Evans.
Amy: (semi-coldly) 'Amy' will suffice, Ensign.
Holmes: Oh, certainly.
...(They meet again)
Holmes: Ensign; er, Amy.
Amy: Yes, what can I do for you, ensign (slight emphasis on ensign/)
Holmes: I'm here about my phyical
Amy: Oh, absolutely. This way...

Also, another idea... They could both be at the bar at relatively the same time and one of them could pluck up the courage to go introduce themselves... or they're with someone who introduces the pair FOR them... or something...

I know. I actually just went back and fixed a whole slew of little things I missed in my initial proofread. Bleh. Although it was mostly spacing errors.

So, how about a sneak preview. What does Amy look like? C'mon, details, details!

Me, too. This is really going to be a lot of fun!

Lol okay, okay!

She's about 5'7", with a petite frame. Thick dark brown hair that's pulled back into a tight french braid on duty, but either pulled into a loose one in the mornings or a ponytail when she's relaxing in her quarters. Very pale, the occasional freckle on her nose. Trademark bright blue eyes ;) To match the uniform, of course.

She's always living in her father's shadow. People don't see 'her,' they see 'the Admiral's daughter.' Everyone has the highest expectations of her. And naturally, having a father in high places, some of the younger ones resent her, claiming that she uses her father's position to further her career in Starfleet. This couldn't be further from the truth. She just wants an opportunity to prove herself, to live up to her father's name.

She isn't very accustomed to socializing, but once she does make a friend, you're friends for life. Very dedicated to her work, but also dedicated to her relationships.

Um... I'm drawing a blank. xD

Oh, I had her come from the UK (same as Bashir) to give them something interesting to talk about. The scene in my head was like,

Amy: *Sitting at bar alone*
Bashir: *walks up and introduces himself informally* "I thought I detected a hint of UK in that cadence, earlier."
Amy: "Uh, yes sir. I've lived in the London area for the past four years, sir." (nervous wreck)
Bashir: "The 'sirs' are unnecessary. The name's Julian.

(Also, this hasn't even come up in my episode yet, so you're getting a super sneak preview! xD)

Cool! The UK thing is a nice touch. I like that introduction. 'Cadence' is definitely a word Bashir would throw out! The bit about the Admiral is good, too. Like a reverse Tom Paris situation, sort of. I always loved that sort of storyline ^^

Holmes is 5'9, with a slim, wiry martial arts build. He's girl-shy and duty oriented like Yuji, but he's not as introverted, and as a result he'll make more friends and more enemies. He's tough when it comes to duty, but he's more tender in his personal life, and will take it personally if someone is upset with him and he either doesn't know why or isn't sure what he did. He'll go out of his way to correct the problem almost to the point of being a pest.

My little preview: (I've hidden a little Voyager easter egg in here. let's see if you find it!)


“Can I help you, Quark?” the Commander asked, nearly allowing disdain to drip into his voice.

Without waiting for an invitation, Quark bustled in.
“ Actually commander, I’m here to meet the new guy.” Quark scanned the room and quickly settled on the one unfamiliar face. With a sharp- toothed grin, he strode over as fast as little Ferengi legs could carry him.

“Ah, you must be the new fellow all my customers are talking about. Well, let me just say that you, my friend, are very good for business!”

Holmes stood up politely, hands behind his back at first, though he did offer his hand for handshake once Quark finished talking. Quark took it, albeit briefly.

“ Well, I’m… glad I could help?” Dan stated\questioned. His eyes wandered around the room, silently asking how he was supposed to react to this. He had, of course, been ‘warned’ about the Ferengi at the academy, but this was his first time dealing with one in person.

Sisko seemed a little put off by the Ferengi’s impromptu visit. He snapped his fingers suddenly.
“Let me guess, Quark - rule number 121?”

Quirk seemed a little taken aback, but recovered quickly. “Rule of Acquisition number 194, actually. ‘It’s always good business to know about a new customers before they walk in the door’. But that was close, Commander. You must have been studying.”

:( I feel so inadequate. I can't find it. (It HAS been several years, mind you!)

And also, we'll have to find some way for Dan to piss off Amy, just to fool around with that. xDD

Oh, don't beat yourself up! It's so small that'd you have to look for it to notice it. And I'm such a dork for coming up with it, mind you! XD It was this part:

Ensign Kim mistakenly says that to Quark on the first episode of Voyager (I did mention I am a total nerd?), and Quark takes offense to it, demanding to know who 'warned him about Ferengi'.

That passage was longer than I meant it to be. I've been on this creative streak tonight, for some reason.

Hmm...would she get mad at him for being too formal after she told him not to? Like, if he keeps calling her Lt. Evans, even when off-duty?
Or he could keep getting hurt in the line of duty, causing him to get a lecture from her, maybe?

Ohh!! I remember now. xD *points to self* slightly photographic memory. Although, it's been so long... I can hardly remember anything of Voyager.

That makes more sense now that you mention it. Holmes wouldn't come strutting into the infirmary asking for a checkup while there's a medical emergency going on. Good thing they don't have people disrobe for physicals anymore. That would be a hell of a way for Holmes to meet Amy.
"Uh, I'm Dan."
"I see. Starfleet issue boxers?"
"Yes, ma'am."

I've got one more idea. Maybe our first character crossover. If you want to, how about having Holmes pop into the infirmary for his check-up? We could do that later, if you want, but if you feel like giving it a shot, you can control Holmes for in your update.

It just occurred to me that I didn't tell you! She's... well, I hadn't decided on an age until right now, actually, 'cause you asked. She's 23.

How about my second update? So I can get a better feel for how to use Holmes in my writing, as well as for me to get my pilot out of the way. xD

I'm about 2 minutes away from an update. I did half this fic using speech recognition software (so I don't get carpal tunnel someday), and there are a few errors. But I've finished for all intents and purposes! Just another minute!

I did wind up thinking of something for your character, btw. She could suspect Garak, and that's how she and Bashir could get their introduction. From there, they could even have an unofficial mission where they keep tabs on him.

This whole scenario actually spawned from a dream I had. In it, I (or at least my character) on DS9 and dating Dax. He was assigned to Voyager, but opted out of the comission to stay with her. Then he fought some Cardassians that tried to take over the station. He, Sisko, Dax, and O'Brien were crawling through the access conduits when the Cardassians found them. It was like this:

Sisko: Damnit! We have to slow them down.
Dax: I'll go, Benjamin.
Holmes: No. I'm going.
Sisko: ...Damnit. I'm going.
Holmes and Dax: No!
Holmes: Sir, you're needed here. And between Dax, O'Brien and I, who can you afford to lose most? You've got your chief engineer, and someone with eight lifetimes worth of knowledge.
Sisko: ...(Claps him on the shoulder) You'd better catch up with us.
Holmes: Aye, sir.
Dax: Daniel, I-
Holmes: I love you, Jadzia. I WILL be back. I promise. (kiss)

I woke up.

That's a good question. Well, with Holmes, I'm having him basically fall for Dax right away, then considering becoming a Trill host so he could be with her.

Maybe you could give her a background in medicine. It doesn't have to be big or anything. Just somehow important. Like I gave Holmes 'The Tarsus VI Incident' or whatever I called it. Just enough to give them a start to get them talking.
