My interpretation of Virgo who, at least by some accounts, is linked to the Greek goddess Astraea. As Wikipedia so finely puts it: "Astraea, the celestial virgin, was the last of the immortals to live with humans during the Golden Age, one of the old Greek religion’s five deteriorating Ages of Man. According to Ovid, Astraea abandoned the earth during the Iron Age. Fleeing from the new wickedness of humanity, she ascended to heaven to become the constellation Virgo."
Typically Libra is depicted holding Astraea's scales but I decided I'd let Virgo/Astraea hold her own scales for this picture. The little toon image on Virgo/Astraea's drape is just a dumbed down interpretation of Astraea abandoning the earth for the stars and those few "not barbaric" mortals bemoaning her leaving them to fend for themselves in the new age of greed and self-fullfilling nature. I threw a bunch of random sad faces in I guess to help drive the whole "hopelessness" theme home... or maybe I just cannot help but draw random faces. I'm going with the latter. Oh, and true story - there's an accidental hidden snake face in this (in the gems near the sun face). It has nothing to do with Virgo and was merely a happy accident that I couldn't help but leave in.
