"Mariel"
Mariel one of the characters of an In Nomine/Sailor Moon fanfiction I've been planning for some time now. She is a malakite of the Sword, and an ex-Tsayadim.
Background:
In middle ages, the leader of Heaven's troops, Uriel (Archangel of Purity), declared a crusade against the supernatural creatures of earth. His campaign called for the extermination of the ethereal spirits -- the dragons, the fairies, the elves, the unicorns, gods, and other beings that failed to give the Judeo-Christian God his due or have allied themselves to Hell. Despite the combined might of the various pantheons, Uriel and his troops decimated them.
Before he could complete the job, however, Uriel was recalled to the upper Heavens, never to be seen again. His troops were reassigned to various other archangels, but his most fanatical warriors, the Tsayadim ("Hunters"), refused to serve Heaven under another commander. They exiled themselves to the Far Marches, but still maintained guard over earth, slaying any ethereal that dares enter.
In the intervening centuries, Mariel grew tired of fighting outside of Heaven's mandate. She left the Tsayadim and went to serve under Lawrence, Archangel of the Sword and the new commander of Heaven forces. Lawrence was also one of Uriel's elite warriors, and they shared the same genocidal view towards ethereals, so its not as if Mariel had a change of heart when she left the Tsayadim.
In the beginning of the story, Mariel is sent to earth to investigate the appearance of kami and demons in Tokyo, Japan. She runs into a sorceress (Sailor Mars) and the fire spirits she serves. In the ensuing battle, Mariel razes the Hisakawa Temple, slays the fire spirits and captures Sailor Mars. She then brings Mars to Notre Dame, Heaven's earthly headquarters.
Personality:
Mariel is pretty much the stereotypical Malakite -- zero sense of humor, intolerant, tyrannical, stuck up, anal, bad @$$. What makes Mariel different from the average makalite is her service as a Tsayadim, having battled gods during the Purification Crusade and won.
Her power (aside from combat) is to look at anybody and measure their honor, an ability all malakim possess (and use in the role of judge, jury, and executioner). It should be noted that she, like most Tsayadim, does not use this ability on the ethereals she hunts. Ethereal critics would say that this is because she would see that what she is doing isn't very honorable.
The quote is from the Archangel of Death, to Usagi/Sailor Moon, sometime in the middle of the story.
Note:
While Malakim wings are black-purple, they're supposed to be dark skinned/shadowy in color and tend to wear practical clothing or animal skins. I invoke artistic license. :D Her oath chains are wrapped around her waist, which may be hard to see.
