Forgot to mention: The injured and ragged wings really add to the idea of hopeless sadness, as if the angel is in such depression that he/she isn't even bothering to take care of herself/himself anymore.Adalia_Glenys on February 5, 2005, 11:07:58 AM
This is probably the most original depiction of a fallen angel I've ever seen. The attitude conveyed by the posture is a fairly standard one, but the drapery really heightens the sense that the angel has not just fallen, but feels forsaken and even unworthy. It's as though the angel is trying to hide his or her identity, ashamed to let anyone see his/her face. The only thing I don't care for is the scythe; in my opinion, it adds an element of violence that doesn't seem in keeping with the sense of spiritual despair.
