OH SHIZ I IS WRITING A MANGA??
This is a trailer-thingy. The poorly-written poem on there is from a ballad called The Raven King. Which is, funnily enough, about the Raven King, and is given in a footnote in Strange and Norrell. (yes, a footnote. When was the last time you read a fantasy novel with footnotes? There was a footnote in there that was nearly five pages long ...)
In said novel, the Raven King is a mythological king of England, who ruled three kingdoms, one in England, one in Faerie (which is, despite what you might have been led to believe, is indeed where fairies live), and one in a curious land on the far side of Hell. Over all he's pretty cool, though he does have this bad habit of kidnapping people he's taken a fancy to. (that's what the aforementioned ballad concerns.) [/old-English-legend-rant]
So. This comic is about a charactere based off Susanna Clarke's Raven King, and Shadow. Who is mine. I hope you'll read it ... If only because they both have really nice hair.
(one last thing: if you want to see me go through with this, please badger, remind, hint at, and generally annoy the pants offa me. I am a very very lazy procrastinator. Howevermuch I want to draw this ... I will find it hard to pull through. None of my other manga ideas have yet gotten past the idea stage. Now you know why. So be charitable and halp prevent it from happening to this one. Thank you.)
Panel one: Shadow and Astarael. The scanner killed Astarael's pretty hair. It looks a lot better on the paper ... the other two are the Raven King. Because he's pretty.
I was going to post the version in which I smushed the two pages of the trailer into one image, but it is very, very, tediously long that way. This way gives you a better sense of the original, but if you want to see the whole, I put it on DeviantART.
