That pose, is the same one that Aphrodite, the goddess of love, took as she sprang forth from the sea foam from when Zeus' father was castrated.
Also, sometime in the Rennaissance someone drew a supposedly 'outrageous' picture of Aphrodite in that exact position, in the middle. This was consisted an outrage because not only was it of a Greek Goddess during the age of Christianity, but because in all religious paintings Jesus was the one in the middle.
