Before World War I, Ducek Novotny knew Krysta Havel in Brastilava, and were fiancès by a long period before the war. In November of 1918, Ducek return with Krysta and proposed her marriage.
The following year (1919) they was married in Kosice and due to some problems of the country, emigrated to the U.S.A. where they had Monty.
