The first time I've really done a background, all it is would be a gradient, but.... I still like it.
This was part of an art trade between Wandering_Spirit and myself, I never got a request in time and my drawing hand got restless, so I churned this out, I'm sure I'll draw something else once I get a request.
Anyway, I am by no means an expert on the character of Xera, so, I'm really going to shut up now.

Coloring-wise, it's a nice approach. The idea for the pose is good, but you chose a difficult one. The pose itself might need a bit of work.
May I suggest a trick I learned: start by finding a reference that you like, trace it while changing (adding or removing) some details, then try again, adding or removing details over and over until you're able to do it without even tracing. It might take a while, but it's good practice.
Now, for my end of the trade, what would you like?
