Robert E. Howard is high on my list of favorite writers, in part because I like his writing style, but also because he is the creator of Conan the Barbarian. I absolutely love the premise of an antiheroic barbarian warrior traveling across the world and having adventures in exotic locations, fighting monsters and evil wizards. Unfortunately his stories are rife with outdated social attitudes, particularly racism, but given the time in which they were written that isn't particularly surprising and usually isn't enough to detract from their fun value.

Howard usually described Conan as being burnt by outland suns, but here I made him relatively pale so that his complexion contrasts nicely with the Stygian wench I've paired him up with (Stygia is the Hyborian Age's equivalent of ancient Egypt). Since Conan's supposed to be a very muscular character, I paid better attention to his anatomy than I do to most of the people I draw, especially the legs and torso. Overall I think he came out rather nicely.
