Another story preview continuing off from 'Overwhelming Curiosity'

Sparks glanced at the chains, and his claws coiled around them as tight as possible and he pulled, watching as the chain links popped loose and the rest was thrown to either side of him. He then gazed at the locks. "Hmm..." He glanced at the sharpened tips of his fingers. He whispered something inaudible and watched as energy slowly started to crackle from the tips of the digits on his hand.

Several 'zaps', 'crackles' and 'clink...clink clinks' later, the young hedgehog soon pushed the lid of the chest open. It was opened with a haunting 'creeeeaak...'...and inside was nothing but black. "H...Hello?" Sparks hesitantly inquired, before seeing as the black mass was like a fog that crept out from the open container and slid out into a open spot on the floor. It ascended into a column, and slowly it took form.

Brilliant emerald eyes shone atop the blood-red 'whites' of his eyes. All the rest of the creature, however, was almost black. Dark blue fur barely tinged the veil of shadows on their form, and the light blue crystal that growed upon his appendages, like his arms, legs and spikes, glowed very dimly. Smoke crawled off the dark grey tuft of fur on his chest, seeming to roll into the air till they disappeared.

The unnatural figure gazed at the hedgehog, scanning over his naturally fragile, scarred form. He raised an eyebrow before he elegantly bowed. 'Mephiles the Dark, at your service.' He reintroduced, before rising up to a proud, but somewhat relaxed stance. 'It is wonderful to be out from that horrible box...I thank you greatly, Sparks the Hedgehog.'

"You are welcome...hey, why don't you have a mouth?" Sparks asked with childish curiosity. 'I have no need for one...if and when I do, then it shall appear...now, I may need to explain a few things to you.'

"Okay, I'm all ears." Sparks said as he sat down cross-legged, the diamond tag of his collar jingling. 'Now...as you may have noticed...I am but a shadow...normally I have a much more stronger, solid form...but years of sitting, gathering dust has caused my powers and my strength to weaken...now, I cannot be seen by Metal Sonic and Metal 'Overlord'...or else we'll both be doomed. In a similar manner, since you've freed me...I am bound to service to you...therefore, I shall be hiding in your shadow...hiding in your mind....but I shall be teaching you how to unleash power...and when things go horribly wrong in your life, I shall be your...' Mephiles paused a moment as his hand rotated in the air while he tried to think of the saying. 'I do believe the way of describing it is 'your shoulder to cry on'.'

"So you'll be hiding in my...head? And my shadow?" Sparks was answered with a simple nod. He watched as the shadow-creature crept towards his shadow and seemed to steal it away, devouring it before he took his place as Sparks' shadow. "So...am I able to talk to you?" 'Eye-to-eye...not all the time. I'll suspect that time shall be cut short by your so-called 'Masters'....but you can talk to me, as if you were talking to yourself...'

"Really?" 'Yes, but I would suggest that unless you want both Metals to question your sanity, you speak mentally....I can always hear you, and your thoughts...'

"Wow....kinda creepy." 'You'll get used to it soon.Now, I suggest we swiftly retreat to another location before you're caught.' Mephiles pointed out, and the slave-hedgehog gave a nod of agreement before he bolted out of the room.
