I wondered how long it would take someone to bring up the real Baron... XD

First off, I have nothing against the historical Baron. I actually LIKE the guy, believe it or not! I've read "The Red Fighter-Pilot" (good book), studied the history of the Flying Circus, and admire that certain sense of chivalry that he brought to the air. But, when you're doing a comic-booky universe, where everything is reliant on visuals, what is more striking than bright red?

And I must state now that THIS Red Baron is the bad guy, but other than the name and the plane, will bear almost NO resemblance to the real von Richtofen. I wouldn't want it to be assumed that I'm knocking him!

Though, as far as the Red Baron being tacked on to undesirables... "The Red Baron" was a prize-winning and well-loved P-51 at Reno, the pizza company "Red Baron Pizza" always portrayed the pilot in their commercials as heroic (rescuing the tethered girl from the speeding train), and "Enemy Ace", who it was always assumed you KNEW was supposed to be Richtofen, was a hero and a gentleman. Never liked those Snoopy cartoons. XD

I won't complain about the history lesson! I'd never heard that quote before, but it is a good one.

As far as the text: Since it was Paint, I drew out each letter, pixel-by-pixel. Sounds long and boring, but once you've done one letter, you simply copy and paste it where-ever else you need it. =D

I'm happy someone on here actually KNEW enough about Richtofen to complain! So I must thank you for giving intellegent, and rather cool, feedback. Hope to hear more from you!

Aww, I know it's your universe and you can do what you like with the characters in it... but I have to admit that I'm a bit of a fan of the real life Red Baron, you never see any protaganists or respectable characters named after him. Everyone always makes Richthofen out to be some arrogant old moustached bloodthirsty German man (and reflect this belief in their cartoon charicatures of him) when in reality he was apparently really quite reserved, respectful, worried about the safety of his family, and only 25 years old when he died (and blond and clean shaven, but that doesn't really matter, I suppose).

Actually, here's a quote from a transcript of Roy Brown's (the man who is credited with shooting him down) journal on the day he was brought to see Richthofen's body: "the sight of Richthofen as I walked closer gave me a start. He appeared so small to me, so delicate. He looked so friendly. Blond, silk-soft hair, like that of a child, fell from the broad, high forehead. His face, particularly peaceful, had an expression of gentleness and goodness, of refinement. Suddenly I felt miserable, desperately unhappy, as if I had committed an injustice."

Bah, I'm sorry, enough with this unwanted history lesson, and I know that your cardinal Baron is probably not meant to have much in common with the real life historical figure, but it just always gets me a little to constantly see the monicker of "Red Baron" attached to the undesirable characters.

But, great pic, nonetheless! Your crisp lineart is always lovely, and I have to say, I'm completely in love with Har's expression... just wondering, how did you do that text? I really like it, is it a font or did you write it yourself?

God, I just go on and ON forever, don't I? Bah.

Hmm... so here we have two of the avians next to each other. Consistent with the other ones, the only nit I find is, where are the wings? I know they prefer to wear their wings under uniform, as they don't use them for much anyway, but the anthropomorphy of seems to say (to me) that they don't have any wings. I also notice how Red is a different breed of avian. And hey, is that part of Red's hand or just a red a red patch on his glove we're seeing?

Either way, this gives me a few ideas to think about. I haven't drawn any avians in awhile....

Heh... not surprised you've never heard the quote, most people don't realize that Canadians were even *in* the war, let alone accomplishing things, and with Roy Brown being Canadian those lovely little quotes tend to get shuffled under the rug.

Ah, the text, I can sympathize with pixel by pixel, back in the day before I got Photoshop I had to make due with Superpaint (essentially the Mac equivalent to MS Paint)..... Never was ambitious enough to go off and make myself a whole text though. Kudos to you!
