Description

One day Prometheus asked Zeus to make a choice of two offerings: one was covered with rich fat (but concealed only bones), and the other was in a stomach, but looked unappetising (but held the delicious innards and rich flesh). Zeus took option one, and has ever since recieved this unsatisying offering from votaries, whereas the mortals keep the edible parts for themselves. This trickery pissed off Zeus, so the god took fire away from mankind (obviously shortsighted on this part as fire was needed for sacrafice). Prometheus, as mankinds's benefactor, did not want the mortals to suffer, so he stole some fire from the Olympians and returned it to mankind. Zeus punished Prometheus by chaining him to a cliff and sending a vulture to tear his liver apart each day; the immortal's liver grew back each night to be ready for the next day's excruciating torture. Prometheus is celebrated as the defender of mankind, and is the personification of freedom. His name means "foresight", and he knew beforehand what he would suffer, yet he chose to do what he did. Perhaps choosing K for this piece requires no explanation, as Gravitation's definition of living on the edge.
