Traveling Soldier

Kareen stood out on a balcony, dressed in a beautiful white satin dress with one strap over her left shoulder. Sighing she looked back at the party going on behind her; Highschool Prom, happy couples and friends chatting away as loud music was blaring some song about sex. Kareen turned back around ane stared at the sky, she herd footseps behind her.

"Why are you out here?" A male voice asked her. "Nothing, what about you, John?" The dark brown haired teen walked over and leaned on the railing with Kareen. "The guys decided to go off and try to pick up dates." John sighed as Kareen laughed a little. "Yeah, the 'chick flick' went to dance." She looked back up at the night sky. "Beautiful." John said.

"I know, isn't it? I've always loved night-time." Kareen said. "I wasn't talking about the sky....." John paused and looked at his friend. "This might be a bad time to tell you this..... But...." Kareen looked at her best friend, a sincere look graced her face. "I'm being shipped off to war in a few days...."

"W-what!? John, you can't go!" Kareen outbursted; John just looked at her. "I have too.... Aparently I was created for this..... I'm a 'biological super-human', as they said." Kareen felt tears swelling in her eyes. "I'm sorry, Kareen...." John leant over and pulled her close to him, lips grazing the others. The song changed to 'Traveling Soldier' and tears fell from Kareen's eyes....
