This has been in my brain for a while now, but I decided to draw it for Tombot as some kinda Yuletide/ winter-een-mas/Winter Festivus present thingy (I just know as soon as I say Christmas He'll be Hindu or something. 8P Happy December Tombot! It got cut off, but the left side says REGULATOR in the corner there Sephy is saying "Look Tonka, WEAPONS!" while Tonka oohhhs.
Ahem, The Plasma blade MK I was ceated for use by the Strength class cyborgs during the period of the "endless war" when both sides were using cyborgs in regular combat.
Because of the enourmus amount of armor and equipment worn by the hulking Strength class units, battles between two of them were long, costly, and not efective at winning battles in a timely manor, often the two would become so involved in fighting each other that the other troops finshed on their own. The plasma blade was made to cut through large amouns of armor, and end these clashes. The grip fits two hands of a normal human, but was swung single handedly by the intended users (there's a sense of scale.
The MK 1b actually came after the MK 2. It was created becuase even after extensive training, most troops only used the shot mode, or anything where they could get a good sweep (sword, extended spear).
As it was not cost efective to mass produce the MK 2 with its flixible field producers, regulators, and mind downlinks, when battle results were only moderately better. Using plans from the defunct MK 1, A new weapon was created that was cheap to mass produce, and highly lethal.
Holding the Primary grip disperses plasma along the edges. Willing the weapon to switch to gun mode causes all the plasma to be pulled into the inertia booster at the tip. Holding the secondary grip (mid-blade)and pulling the mental trigger fires a burst down the tip,projecting a burning spike. Top fireing speed is 3 shots/1 sec.
but this poses a cosiderable drain.
Fourtuneately, the Plasma cores are easy to mas prouduce, and have been used as makeshift mines/ grenades in the field.
