The Laocoon
The Laocoon
The Laocoon by Leonessa
Description
Description
Another pic from my Rome sketchbook 2005. This is a sculpture of the Trojan priest Laocoon and his two sons in the Vatican Museums. This sculpture was based off a scene in Virgil's Aeneid: Laocoon spoke against letting the wooden Trojan horse into Troy because he thought it was a trap (which it was). In revenge a god (I forget whether Poseidon or Athene) sent two sea serpents to kill him and his sons.
I forget the exact details so anyone please feel free to correct me, I haven't read The Aeneid in some time --;
