I thought about that as I was finishing up the image. The exercise was for a single eye and this idea just came to me, so when I flipped it I didn’t initially pay mind to the minute details in the reflections in the iris and the eye as a whole. I submitted as is to look back and learn from these things and comments like this are invaluable!
The light source was the mark I missed here, as I’m still discovering a lot about that as a whole.

But, a small bit of advice. When you paint one eye, copy, paste and flip it to use for the second eye (nothing wrong with that), wait with the highlights and shadows until you have both eyes and do them individually for each eye. That way you have the light coming from the same side for both eyes.
