Description

This was done seven years ago for a Christmas card contest at work. It was deemed to be unsuitable because "It might offend our Jewish customers!"
I tried to explain that Judaism has angels also, as do most religions, in some form or another. I was ignored, of course, and some card with snowmen and candy canes (that was done from clipart in probably about twenty minutes) won.
Still slightly bitter, I guess. I was asked why I didn't make her blond, with golden wings and a white robe. Mostly because that's what the usual image seems to be. What's wrong with a brunette angel?
If this image somehow offends anyone for religious reasons, please let me know.
I had a list of sayings for the card banner so the judges could pick which one they liked best:

=13px have to agree with luckylace=13px, the wings are nicely done! I like the pose and line work as well.

=13pxIf I had to give a crit=13px, it would be one thing... only 9 pictures? Post more sir!

Thanks for the compliment! I would gladly do more pictures, but they are quite hard for me now. Before, it was just pain and stiffness in my hands, but then I had a stroke last year. I now have a hard time seeing the tip of the pencil because of a close-range double vision, plus difficulty controlling the pencil anyway. Still, the doctor says it would be good therapy for me to draw. If I can actually do anything worth seeing I will certainly post it.

Thank you! Actually, I wasn't happy with the detail myself. Not only did it lose something in the scan, I thought the feathers came out looking kind of like leaves.

lol, I would say "May the Force Be With You" should go on the banner, but this picture's just too pretty for that. ^^

I love the wings and your idea of a "different" angel. I get tired of the blonde, gold, and white only image too. If you draw an angel for Christmas again maybe you could give him/her black hair! ^^

Thank you. I'm not sure if I will be drawing much any more, though. My hands don't work as well as they used to, but Aleve helps. Yes, I get tired of stereotypes. Have you noticed angels seem to usually be Caucasian? Urgh, must. . . resist. . . urge. . . to. . . get. . . all. . . theological.

lol, I don't mind theology. And I agree, I've only seen one or two pictures of angels before that weren't Caucasian. It's kind of sad.
