Wow, awesome tutorial on shading and light sources!! It's easy to understand and extremely helpful!! I've always found shading to be kinda hard coz I often confuse myself with the whereabouts of the light source...I also like the different types of shading you can use too. Keep up the great work!! ^_^

That is SO COOL! Your tutorial is really helpful. At first I couldn't figure out what vanishing pt. was, but I got it. I tried practicing on a ball before and tried to add a shadow but its hard for me to tell where the shadow should go. Ha ha, but I guess to know that you have to know the light source. I didn't try that.
Question? Why is there a half light behind the very back of the ball and how dark should the shadow be? Half light? Its the one thing I usually practice is the shading. Forget the hand, I'll never figure that out! Also the other problem I have is the acutual method of shading. 'Tis hard.......

There's half light behind the ball because of the reflection of the light from the ground surrounding the ball it should be a be inbetween 1/2 and no light because it isn't a stong lightsource when being reflected from the ground.
What I do is start from the dark area first using the hatch method but instead of long strokes I use shorter ones and as it goes towards the light source I lenghten the strokes and begin spacing them apart gradually lightening my pressure on the pencil so it'll blend easier.
