'Tis not odd at all. It's a strange pose, perhaps, but the overall structure on this guy works. To me, one key aspect with any lizard/reptilian is how you place the tail. Many artists place the tail behind the legs, going "out the back" so to speak -- I've never liked that placement, and never will. Instead, I prefer reptilians drawn with the tail clearly between the legs, like this one. It's more accurate to a reptile's physiology and, well, I guess it's juts anti-cliché.
My only real nit about this creature is that much of its bulk seems concentrated around the hip area. Is it a female by any chance? You can never tell when it comes to reptiles (and if you can, then there's something wrong with the species, lol).
