Description
The term "Gar"had me confused, when I think of a Gar I think of the fish depicted beside Chuu's leg, a large, bony scaled freshwater fish, the Garpike. What was apparently meant, though, was the fish just above his head, the Garfish (I know them as "Needle-Fish") A relatively small saltwater fish...so confusing!!!
How can Chuu be swimming with salt and fresh water fish at the same time? Anything can happen in fantasy, or maybe he's at the All Blue....
The pose was modified from a creature on the cover of a Moonstone Sea Creatures comic book, I heavily modified it, of course.

It's funny, he got the ugly from his father, Yassop, and the nose from his unnammed mother, so which was the Mer-Person...or maybe they both were...I read something a few days ago, if a Merman eats the devil's Fruit he's be as good as dead...but then, a Merman could walk along the bottom of the sea instead of swimming, but it would be very time consuming.
At first, I wondered why Mermen would need ships, as they undoubtably have greater stamina than humans, but then I realized, they couldn't haul their treasure around in their bare hands!!(-;

I think that Ussop was originally a merman, but they shunned him. I know I would've. look at that nose. It makes Michael Jackson look pretty. -^^- and Nami's sister's name is Nojiko(not sure how it's spelled.)

I've seen Japanese masks of long-nosed demons, I think they're called "Tengu"? and a character appeared in a circus' "Haunted House" on a Rurouni Kenshin episode, disquised as a Tengu....maybe Ussop is really a demon.....Ran_The_Hyena on August 21, 2005, 11:58:23 PM
( ; Thank you for all the comments, it's crazy trying to keep up with it all...I noted something interesting this Saturday on One Piece, Arlong is, of course, bigoted against humans, he thinks they smell, that they are vastly inferior and that they exist to serve him. But the humans also are prejudiced, the call the Mermen, among other things: Beasts, Fish sticks,ugly, Sushi,half-breeds, freaks, and say THEY smell bad....
It flows both ways...
I did think it was funny when Nami's sister, what's her name, said that Ussop was "Ugly enough to be a Merman"...
Heck, he's Ugly enough to be a demon (not the handsome ones like Kurama or Kouga, more like more like those half-rotting swarms of freaks on the Inuyasha commercials)....
For the recond, I dislike ALL demonic characters, it's a personal thing...
