New Beginnings (Spyro & Cynder)

I actually drew this picture 5 weeks ago but never got the chance to share it online until now.

While browsing around spyroforum.com's message board, something in the art requests area took my interest. DarkCynder - or dragongaz as he used to be known, whichever rocks your boat - requested some images of Spyro and Cynder together, and I thought I could have a stab at it.

And there we have it; Spyro with young Cynder, and in terms of character sketches my first attempt at the latter. I had this vision of the pair looking over a restored landscape around the Dragon Temple; the possibility of them ready to face fresh adventures beyond the Convexity incident at the climax of The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning (hence the image title). I don't know why a lot of my images for the Legend-arc titles mainly turn out to be happier than the moods in the game, but that's just me I guess :p

My attempts at Legend-arc Spyro seem to be improving as well. Odds are I seem to get a better angle through the concept art if anything, and with the familiar image of Spyro against a moon backdrop for the cover for The Eternal Night showing up when I started the drawing (more notably the cel-shaded version for the mobile phone release) it made a lot of difference when it comes to adding a good set of lined detail and stuff. Clearer pictures of young Cynder came through at about the same time as well and I'm happy with using what I had to develop the finished results as shown here.

Either way I'm glad it came through. I hope Gaz appreciates it, and I hope it's not the last time I draw either Spyro or Cynder. ;)
