More discoveries in photoshop. Now I can put highlights in hair by using small white dots and the smudge tool.
The screenshot I used for the background had Ed sitting about where leo Ed and leo Greed's hind legs are. Using the smudge tool alowed me to cover the parts of Ed that were showing by smudging the background colors over him.
I also noticed that my shading almost matches the lighting in the background.
