Sunny - update

Finished an old sketch or two. This is marker + digital edit of the sparkles.
Felt like having a newer image of Sunny in the gallery and a repeat of her character. She's one of the few Sonic characters I have that don't have a role outside of Sonic stories - I use her to explore Sonic's view to family and turn the common "long lost sibling" fan character concept on its head a little.

Sunny is Sonic's younger sister - at least, she's convinced of that. She spent a lot of effort finding him, for being the only family she could trace.
But the way Sonic sees it, Tails is a brother - Sunny is a stranger. The past doesn't interest him, and blood ties don't mean anything.
There's some big disappointment before she can accept that. Sonic would love to get to know a stranger, but he doesn't think Sunny's being or not being his sister actually tells him anything about her. The longer she argues about that, the more he feels like leaving her in the dust. It's only when Sunny stops trying to make him agree and drops the topic that they can actually become friends - via other things they have in common.

Sunny's most obvious talents - and biggest joys in life - are dancing and swimming. She's a good, improvising dancer, and has so far not lost an underwater race. She's a bright girl, if uneducated, always has a smile to spare, and can cheer most people up. She believes everyone deserves a second chance, and if people have it in them to change, she is likely to lure it out.

But her idealistic disposition makes her too optimistic at times, and she's prone to taking careless chances. She can also be awfully stubborn about her own ideas, even when faced with arguments from people who know the situation better. As she's not really a fighter, she's often been saved by pure luck, or her earrings. They're the magic shielding kind, and haven't come off since they clung to her a few years ago. But they can only protect her - not anyone else she might get into trouble.

She lives off odd jobs and backup dancing - she has no singing voice, but a great sense of rhythm. She also makes some money from showing off her underwater speed at fairs and random beaches.
She has a pretty wild taste in colors and only cares that they're bright and cheerful, notsomuch how well they go together. In addition, her shoes often slip off when she takes an unplanned swim - which she does a lot - so her outfits sometimes end up rather mismatched.
