Girl Warrior Daisy

News flash: Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior to us US yanks) has always been HUGE in Japan. Sometime around the late '80s, there was an anime series loosely based on the world and events of Dragon Quest III. Akira Toriyama (of Dragonball/Dragonball Z fame, naturally) handled the character design, and it told the story of a young fella named Abel and his quest to save his childhood sweetheart Tiala from the clutches of the evil monster Baramos.<br />

In 1990, Saban produced 13 translated episodes of the anime and showed it early on Saturday mornings as "Dragon Warrior." The show was surprisingly good compared to the rest of the stuff on TV at the time, and it's the single show I credit with getting me started in drawing- I still have several terrible pencil sketches dating back to 1991, done from freeze-frames from the episodes I'd taped. The character in this pic is one of the four main hero characters, a bounty hunter/mercenary/swordswoman named Daisy. She's always been one of my favorite characters, so I figured I'd pay a bit of tribute to her in a slightly-smuttified drawing. <br />
