Keira - Dreamin' of You

It was back again. The darkness swooped and enveloped her, cushioning her fear and confusion from the outside world. Through the gloomy mists in her head, her mind was as sharp as a knife, futilely trying to cut through the fog. <br />
<br />
It was no use. She wasn't going to get any sleep tonight, at any rate.<br />
<br />
She sat up and swung her legs around and nimbly jumped off the bed; she had long outgrown her adolescent clumsiness and, unusual as it was for a mechanic, was now agile, like the racers she worked with. Stepping carefully as not to tread on her tools, she made her way out of her small cabin-like room, her ears pricked for the nightly sounds of her machines humming. She made her way out of the building and grabbed a Zoomer. She wasn't sure where she was going, but she needed to go <i>somewhere</i> to stop herself going mad.<br />

The moonlight bathed her surroundings, silence shielding the peace. She slipped off the Zoomer, a half-smile playing on her lips. The darkness in her head lessened, dimmed by the beauty of the place.<br />
<br />
She sat down on the weaving grass and, feeling the wind play with her hair, she looked up at the moon. It was still up in the sky among the clouds, a celestial guard waiting. <i>Waiting for what?</i> she thought. Sighing, she lay down, feeling the tendrils of depression grip at her mind again; even the exquisiteness of Haven Forest couldn't completely loosen its grip.<br />

And the simple, quiet splendour of the forest touched her, in somewhere she'd thought she'd long lost, like…<br />
<br />
No! She wasn't going to think of him! It was bad enough she'd already sunk into despair without thinking of him. But the wisps of darkness caught the thought and pulled it closer, the strands wrapping itself around her heart. It was no use, why not admit it? She was in love with a dead man.<br />
<br />
She closed her eyes and tried to rest. And however much she tried to put… <i>it</i> out of her head, she couldn't. Her thoughts, she could keep safe but her dreams were undefended… The tears leaked out of her eyes, and she shook in misery. <i>Why do you taunt me, Jak? Why can't you leave me in peace?</i><br />
<br />
The darkness returned and flooded her mind. There was nothing, <i>nothing</i>, she could do. She got up and hopped back onto the Zoomer and made her way back to Haven City. But a little speck of hope remained, and widened the hole in the heart she nearly lost…<br />

Yeah. Well. I promised myself I would draw an(other) angsty Keira picture. And I did. Late last night. *grin* Insomnia works bloody miracles, I tell you! It's awful most (read: 99.9%) of the time, but it works <b>bloody miracles</b>!!<br />

Regarding the story, I think that's the worst, angsty, full of self-pity story I EVER wrote. In one sitting. Oh well. Did the html work? *crosses fingers*<br />
