Xarcorians have a Compulsion to collect things of their favorite color. In Pulsara's case orange. As for why all these diamonds are floating around in space I like to imagine a planet with a ring of precious gems, perhaps a cargoship carrying them sprung had a hole and she's collecting what got left behind. :D
