One of my oldest drawings that I can feel comfortable about showing to others is this drawing done back in 1996 as a high-school, Art II assignment. That's right, I said 1996. Eight years ago. Early my junior year, as it were....

I didn't have any fortés or specialties back in high school, in fact I was only your average C-level art student. It must've been because I never mastered using the sketchbook -- heck, even today I've yet to really use one. The teacher had quite a collection of old magazine photos, and a photo of two tigers resting in snow-covered mountains was one of them. For the old assignment, I tried drawing out the photo on a sizable sheet of paper.

My favorite part about this old sketch comes from where we had to sign the picture -- hey, it was high school, after all. See those rocks in the foreground? The original photo had rocks almost like that . . . I just modified them slightly. They became my signature.

It's because of that, and that alone, that I like this old work.

Medium: Ebony pencil & (I think) charcoal
Time: About one hour
Scale: 52px/in
