"He's in here, I can sense him. Is he over there? No, those are just old wires. Or -- over there! No, that was just lightning... my sensors must be toying with me.
"I hate this place...."
That's the sort of feeling I was trying to draw.
Okay, entering another spot in my inadvertent series of Request Drawings That Were Needlessly Delayed, this one's for DG-Sama. She asked for a drawing of her robot mech, Galla, in a junkyard setting. There was probably another detail that I forgot about, but anyway, here you have it: Galla surveying the broken landscape around her. It's a junkyard, a graveyard for robots and mecha of ages past. And in some ways it is: that isn't just random debris you see dotting the hills, they used to be robots as well, and I could give a story behind each and every one of them.
Colored pencil is definitely not an easy medium when you want to do energy effects like lightning. Sometimes I think I should've used my negative technique for this drawing....
As for Galla, well, I did some thinking about what her backside should look like (since DG-Sama's reference is just a frontal view), and this is how things worked out.
Medium: Colored and ebony pencil
Time: About five hours of work (split across two weeks of being too busy with other things to work on my art).
Scale (full view): 60px/in
