How poetic it is to both start and end the year 2005 with artwork of dragons: This is Illusor, a variant breed of my feathered Sky Dragons. Despite the large and beautiful train of feathers down his back and tail, this breed is still a flyer on equal par with other Sky Dragons.

It is said that the females of this breed do not bear the large train of tailfeathers, but that they do share similar colors and patterns to their feathered pelt. And like all Sky Dragons, this breed can still store and release electrical energy for use as a weapon.

Inspired by a small carpet with a peacock design I have hanging on my wall; one glance and I knew I had to make a dragon based on it.

Media: Colored and ebony pencil

GoodOlAxelI like it. The choice of color, the pose, the name, but the beak.
I looks kinda' pasted. You know, the part at the top that seems to be detached...
Sorry, I'm being picky. ;)

BreloomYou need life in your eyes. Try adding shine to them or something. I dare you to try it out and see how significantly it brings a picture to life.

OuariSorry but this does not look like a dragon. Shouldn't this be in the giffin section? I don't belive I have ever seen a dragon with a beak. No offence with the pic though. Its well drawn.

StratadrakeOkay, that makes more sense. Though... I decided early on that I wanted this type of dragon to be more birdlike than the average, and having drawn several of them, that's one element which will not be changing. Though with this one I did figure out where to be placing the characteristic nose horn... and if you compare this to how I draw a gryphon, you'll notice the differences right away. People have claimed that my gryphons aren't "really" gryphons, too... hehe.

StratadrakeTrust me, you aren't the first person to say that. Who says a dragon can't have feathers? ;)

OMGitsmarshiwow! i love the way you have done the feathers and all the detail, the colours also seem to go really well together and are bright, but without clashing,
it's really good! :)

Sun_CeCe: That is amazing. You blended so many colours and the shading is spectacular. The feathers look like they are from a real bird. Great pic.

hikari0205Wow Strata that is really good! How many colours are blended in there O_o That is some amazing detail aswell and the feathers look so realistic. Just a small question. Is all of the tail curving to our left ? I just got a little confused because of the extra (feather?) part curving over to the right. It's probably really obvious -_-
Anyways as I said it's great Strata!
