The dragon says farewell, for he has to leave on a journey. The choice is not entirely voluntary.

To which I have to give a farewell, too.

-- a farewell for my sketchbook, that is! Since I now have a smaller sketchbook to scribble in, a pad of thicker paper to do my full shading in, and a few new tools to toy around with for awhile, my current sketchbook is now obsolete. Its lightweight paper simply can't endure my heavy shading these days, the lines and shadows on this dragon have pressed through at least three sheets of its paper.

This is the scene I originally had in mind for the dragon muse. Where the day is old and night must come soon.

Lots and lots of orange, plus some minor structural fixes.

And now an official total of fourteen hours on a single piece.

Some crayon and various pencils both color and otherwise.

Full-views at 75px/in.

Later.

PS: Those interested in seeing the original, previous version of this piece will have to check my dA gallery Scraps (here) -- I will not keep the prior version side-by-side here on FAC.

Project_XFor some reason the element "Ice" comes to mind when I see this dragon. Is he Ice?

Anyways, will the mad skills ever run out!?

PsychoticArtistIf it isn't the legendary Stratadrake. :)

Anyway, I really like the way the scales are detailed and how the horns look believable and shiny.... they just call out to me to say, "Oooh." It's obvious you put some effort into this.

StratadrakeActually, my new drawing pad is the same brand as the one I already have. The only difference is that it is heavier-weight paper, so it will be able to endure heavier shading from me without warping as much. ;)
