Description
This was originally part of a class assignment for Art 204 back in Fall 2001, and at the time was my "best damn artwork period".
This is a creature type I thought up for a story, called the dracans. While not technically dragons, they are often referred to as the "dragon people" due to their draconic appearance. Their society includes traits of both human and dragon culture; some dracans even live among humans in their towns. They can fly, but they do not have fire- or other dragon-breath. For the record, this is a male dracan; females (sometimes called dracennes) look the same, but without a nose horn.
The media is mosaic: I shaded blank paper with colored pencil to get the right color tones, then diced it up into confetti-sized chunks before gluing them to a sketch on the black construction-paper background. This was an arduous task involving over 400 little tiles and took approximately nine hours to complete.
