Description
Description
What's that you say, it looks like it's merely some large bird? That was precisely the idea, says I!
Sometime July 2002: I drew out this type of creature that I call Aerissans, or "bird people". Resemblant of large birds themselves, yet with a cultured, almost human-like society; they can communicate with various birds as well as speak in human tongue, although they usually prefer to remain among their own kind. Like many birds, they have no visible gender differences, especially to the untrained eye. This aerissan could be either a male or female. The ruler on the right shows their scale height in feet -- large arms/wings aside, they're actually not any larger than a human.
Medium: 0.7mm pencil
Time: About 2 hours
Scale: 8.5x5.5", 75px/in at full-view.

I always thought someone should do that. Make an intelligent race (species, whatever)of birds that didn't look at all human. I wish I could draw birds like that. Nicely done

Neato! The wingclaws kind of remind me of a hoatzin. You always do such a great job with feathers, so you know I'm drooling over that. My only complaint is on the talons - birds, especially raptors, usually have the first toe facing backwards for grasping and counterbalance while walking. This would seem needed, especially as your critter is digitigrade with no balancing tail.
