Description
Description
My current project. Oil painting of Christina Aguilera. The only part finished so far is just her face. I still need to complete her hair, top and background. Oil painting on illustration board. Drawn first in pencil, sealed, acrylic paint base with finished oils on top. Hair, top & background are just base acrylic right now. I will finish these areas with detailed oils.

Acrylic base?! Yikes, my oil painting instructor would go nuts, but its coming out nicely.
My instructor would say, that oil won't adhere to the acrylics very well, or something like that and talk about paint chipping in 5 years or more...but I'm sure its just a weak acrylic base.
I know this is going to turn out well.

It's just a very watered down acrylic wash for the base. It's worked okay for me and the art teacher who taught me this method has used it for over 25 years so I guess it works for him as well. I think since the acrylics are so watered down and thinned the oils adhere pretty well. But everyone has a different technique and that's what makes art so great! Thank you for the feedback, Cheers!
