Dragon hatching, based on Tiamat in "Jeremy Thatcher: Dragon Hatcher" by Bruce Coville, cause one of the forum threads reminded me and I still like that book. I used some of Strata's advice on my last dragon, and WOW! Took a long time though...that coloring job only took slightly longer than it took me to read Pienemien's Ray from beginning to end. The egg was a pain, cause I knew what I wanted to do but I couldn't find the functions in PSP 7. Just found them today, and I think it turned out pretty well. I was trying to do it by hand and that is just not working. I like it better this way anyway. It's pretty. ^_^ She reminds me of a big, blue parrot. You can't see some of the finer details in the wings, and some of the blue washed out, but I think she scanned pretty well, too. ^_^

Drawing in all the scales DOES make a difference, doesn't it? If you've ever seen me saying how one of my drawings took two or three hours to complete, now you know why ;)
Aw, a cute baby dragon just hatching... so small, so cute. The scales give it a very firm, a bit rough texture, which is cool. Hmm... looking closely at the head, I notice the scales are interlocked, but looking closely at the body, the scales are distinct (non-interlocked). To me, that makes the dragon's hide feel "studded", kinda like sandpaper.... If you interlock the v's so that they're touching one another, you can get some textures that not only look great but feel smooth as well. And of course, there are lots of different shapes you can experiment with to get interesting textures going.
