So this is in the Gargoyle fan art category despite it being an original character. Oh well?
This dude is named Ward- he's one of the two of the five(?) total gargoyles I've made up that has a name. The other is Gustav... who I was going to re-draw and post but then that hurricane struck and I thought it would be construed as bad taste. Another day, perhaps.
Anyway, Ward is a punk rock-loving gargoyle; his girlfriend is, too. He actually had a totally different design when I first doodled him at work. He was still a punker, but he was more human-looking and based on a weird amalgamation of my brother and Dan Ketch's Ghost Rider. Meh.
This, mostly final version of Ward has some bat and a bit of wolf in him. Inspired in no small part by my re-reading of Brian Lumley's Necroscope series. The bat parts of him are what keep him from having feathery wings. I've noticed, in the Gargoyles series that, when a gargoyle is mammal-based, they tend to have feather wings. Well, as a bit of a departure, I stuck ol' Ward with leathery-like bat-type wings. His mane there is the other wolf part; his snout is kind of wolf-like... at least, I tried to make it look that way.
I've never done a gargoyle from the back before, or with more than one head shot, so this is a spectacular first for me. I'm inordinately pleased with him.
Oh yes, he's totally giving you, the viewer, the middle finger. ...I suck at hands at that angle and for that, I'm very sorry.
