Here we go again! I understand what you mean with regards to the lineart. I did some sketches of Nightcrawler from X-Men: Evolution not long ago in my sketchbook using pen and pencil for shading. Took it into Photoshop for colouring, got bugged by the grainy outline (I'm a bit OCD like that) and decided to ink it digitally. Looking at the end result, I did feel that it looked a bit plastic and sterile compared to traditionally inked linework. Maybe I'll try sticking with traditional inks for a while.
You're right about my colouring. Lately I've just been sticking with cel-shading, but I guess I just need to push myself out my comfort zone. However, I worry that my images will look muddy if I try proper digital painting, I haven't quite got the hang of it yet. But, as you say, I should test myself.
