The Busó-walking (Busójárás in Hungarian) is a popular habit of the Sokci, living in the town of Mohács. This habit is usually held at the end of February. Then the masked busós coming from the river Danube walk through the town, making noise underway by clappers and other wooden tools.

As a legend says, the busós drove out the Turks from the town, when it was occupied by them. According to an other story, the busós are scaring away the winter itself.

On the pic Mac asks Eduardo to wear the mask and the costume, but in Ed's opinion he doesn't need to do it.
Bloo's just enjoying that he can be scary ;)

WH2007Another cool and original fanart! I especially like Mac's expression. In Poland we have a similar tradition but only in one town - the one where I live (Zywiec)

alitta2Really? And is it also held to drive out the winter (in case if it's also at the end of it)?
Yeah, the same here, this tradition is tipical for only Mohács.
Anyway, I heard there are even Polish busó-teams coming to the town along with the other Sokci people from neighbour countries, mostly from Croatia and Serbia.

WH2007Yes, it's the same. They wear wooden masks. They also make a lot of noise (they use whips to do this) to wake up the Earth. Some of them even dress as animals because they are symbols of life and vital energy. We call those guys "Dziady".
