Description

Description

GAZ-69 was a four wheel drive light truck, produced by GAZ (Gorkovskij Awtomobilnyj Zavod) between 1953 and 1955. From 1954 until 1972 it was produced by UAZ, as UAZ-69, though they were commonly known as GAZ-69s as well.
This model was developped to replace GAZ-67 in the Russian army. The first prototype had been built in 1947, but the government only permitted its mass production from 1953. It was widely used not only in the Russian army, but also in the armies of more than 50 countries as well (including the countries of the Eastern Bloc). The vehicle was also produced in Romania under license as ARO M-59, and was copied by China and North Korea, where reportedly it is still in production.
Its popularity shows that often appears on Off Road rallies, and today it is used as hobby vehicle thanks to its off-road abilities.

Hope you like it!

WH2007A Gaz-69! Cool! They were really popular in my country as well. At first, they were used by army and police and then were sold to cicilians. The engines were often replaced by Żuk and Nysa ones because they were more economical. To this day, the military jeeps are called "gazik" XD

Good job, Keep it up!

alitta2Thanks ;) I recently read an article in a magazine about GAZ company. This inspired me to draw the pic.
Anyway, do you know that the Polish army used to have GAZ-67 (or Chapajev) before the GAZ-69s? Today it is almost totally disappeared, or just quite rare.

WH2007Yes, they were used but for a short time. They were quickly replaced by GAZ-69's. Willys and Dodge WC given by UNNRA
were more popular. Their name was even polonised: "Czapajew". Other army jeeps used in Poland were UAZ and polish Honker 4x4 (used to this day.
