It comes from the fact that it's manufactured under license in Mexico by Secretariat of National Defense, though not in a huge number, so the majority of guns that the local police has for example are imported from Germany.

TeeJay87Mexicans do have interest in German technology, apart from firearms, they're also that fond of VW Beetle cars, that they even produced the original model in Mexico https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Beetle_in_Mexico
