Instead of leaving for Midgar, Tseng was raised as a samurai and leads a rebel faction against ShinRa in the war. After a failed negotiation in which Scarlet was sent as mediator, President Shinra sends Rufus to negotiate with the samurai. He's captured in the process and held hostage with the threat that the samurai will execute him if President Shinra does not withdraw General Sephiroth. The president, being the greedy bastard he is does little else than stall for time. Of course, regardless of universe, Tseng and Rufus are drawn to each other. Tseng convinces Rufus to defect to their cause after the president has made it clear that he's willing to sacrifice his son for greed. Gratuitous sex and angst ensue.<br />

The affair is brief, and ultimately doomed. But we like the angst, preciousss.<br />
