was KIA before the war ended.......he was test the fokker d triplane for germany when he ran into a british patrol the ironic part was that he killed most of the patrol except the greenhorn in the patrol and a couple others the greenhorn shot him down taking the only fokker d triplane with him when the red baron didn't come back the germans scraped the triplane project

he actually did not do the testing of the Dr.1
that was Anthony Voss. and the way that the baron died
was not at the hands of of the rookie in a Sopwith camel like so many believe. he was actually shot down by Australian mortar positions on the ground.
and the Fokker Dr.1 was not scrapped. the plane really just fell out of favor for many german pilots because it couldn't dive after allied craft. there were many triplanes in the war.
they just got replaced with Fokker D.VI's
