ashigaru

this is a picture of an ashigaru taking aim at a passing adversary. the gun which he carries is a matchlock musket known as an arquebus. many ashigau and samurai alike used this weapon until the mid 1600's when all foreign influence was stomped out of Japan.the next time samurai would use firearms would not be until the sekihara rebellion in the 1800's.
