Description

Anubis: Son of Osiris (god of the underworld) and Ephthys (goddess of fertility)... As god of death Anubis weights the souls of the dead on a scale against truth, to see if they be worthy to be judged by his father Osiris or loose their spirit to Ammut, a beast known as the "Devourer of souls"... It was Anubis who embalmed and wrapped his father's body in bandages, creating the first mummy... Commissioned piece...

jiraBut you're right! "Dark_Dragon_Dreamer", because mummyfication is what he did to his father Osiris with whom he resides in the underworld...

jiraThere's a physiological reason for the animal façade In Egyptian myths, most of these animals were revere for their elemental connections, strength, beauty, wisdom and fear they evoke! As well as others, thank you for your interest...

Fluffybunny anubis was also worshiped in Greek ian culture. he was called Anpu as was identified with Hermes. he was originally the forth son of Ra but was later put into the osiris family. he had a daughter who was called Kebehut the goddess of freshess. and because of his identification with hermes he was later known as Hermanubis...
sorry about that... but i like to keep people interested by giving people unuseual information at i know about the gods...

The_Vampire_QueenI remember studying the Egyptian Gods in my Ancient History class last year. I'm actually quite fascinated with that culture and this is a marvelous, not to mention vibrant and colorful, depiction of Anubis. Your artwork is amazing.

Black_BreezeHow interesting. I like how you drew the feather of maat against the human heart. That is so interesting, ususally people depict the feather as. . . Well, a feather! I love this picture, but didn't Tloth also part of the Weighing of Hearts ceremony with Anubis? *fav*

jiraThank you for the info, I think I came across the Manga comic of "Ragnarok"... Though I enjoy the artwork, nothing compares to the diverse written literature of World Myths! Thank you for your comments...

ToadslyQuinneOh wow, I love this a great deal. Anubis is my favourite Egyptian god.

Have you ever seen Freakazoid? They had a short on this episode of a market called "Anubis Markets". Part of it was, "Look for the sign with the jackle-headed man." ^__^

More great colours and very groovy, dynamic shading. Noice.

jiraIt's not that is head is too small it's just that the image is set from a different prespective or point of view (foreshorten effect)...

Sanokura...........i guess. you know, i keep coming back and looking at it, trying to figure out whats wrong. now it finally dawned on me. his head is a little too small for the body. dang! i've been confused as to what was wrong all this time! lol! i'm such a loser. lol

Sanokuraseems you have more of a forum here than anything else. lol. the thing is, im obsessed about anubis when someone brings him up.i dunno...........ok need to go find an apartment to live in.....only have a year and 8 months to get everything in order....

jiraThan you both for your kind words and inside information... That's what I love about all the myths, they bring alot more than just what's typically known about them...

Sanokura on January 17, 2005, 2:47:53 AM

Sanokura on
Sanokurawell....anubis has the head of the jackel, and the egyptians believed that they hung around graveyards (which is true becuase they're scavangers) they very i belive from grey to black, and might possibly be brown. i think the washed out grey is a kind of representation of the fact that they were the eaters of the dead...kind ghost deamons of their time. you know what i mean?

DragonicFlames;:gasp:: It's MEH GOD! I looked over this five times and never saw this picture! ::faver:: OO; How could I miss it?!

Yes, it perfectly displays the heart of the victom being weighed, but I always thought of it being more heart-y because he is the god of mummifcation. You know what I mean? oO;

KayagoThat's really cool. I like the scales and the way you drew the fangs. I love Egyptian stuff. The Gods and Goddesses are no exception. To sum it all up, very good job!! But then again, all your work is good ^^

jiraI appreciate your constructive criticism, but bare in mind that if we don't dare to be different, then we're just repeating what everyone else is doing... Tho I must confess the bright colors were influencess by years of tattooing...

KFelidae on October 10, 2004, 12:02:02 PM

KFelidae on
KFelidaeAh, a well-known bit of imagery used a much more compelling way than normal. And while the pallate of colours is still a bit jarring, it seems to fit here better than in previous pics. But I do question why you chose to use such bright colours on the clothes while leaving the head a washed-out gray. While it makes the eyes stand out very well, it draws the eye of the viewer to the belt more than the face or scale...
