Obviously I had to buy some books on figures,faces, and anatomy. Studying then helped immensly. Also look at photographs (or fashion magazines) and try to pencil copy them by eye. You can always just copy anime style, but you'll be seriously limiting yourself. Best to start with realistic stuff and branch from there to anime style.
