i can't hand-draw fire, so it looks like a fuzzy-bird.

Hmmm. To find draw fire, it's kinda easy. Just flick your hand like you do to draw fuzz, just make it roundish and pointy in some parts...

Hm... for a more fiery effect, I would try drawing small flickers of flame around the tail where it would have moved..

I don't think you did, but I probably won't be able to get on it soon. We just got a new nintendo, Pokemon Platinium, I've also restarted Emerald, and we're going to South Carolina next week... I probably won't be able to get on it until afterwards.
