Tonner doll co. released its 17 inch Capt. Jack Sparrow figure recently. And although it was a wonderful recreation of Jack Sparrow, I felt it needed to be more authentic in terms of hairstyling and resemblance to Johnny Depp. So I removed all factory facial paint and completely repainted the doll to more closely resemble Johnny Depp as Capt. Jack. Also, the original hair started out just being plain with a little bit of wave and braids to it. So, I reworked it and created the dreadlocks just like the real character's. Also the hair ornaments were repositioned to look more accurate.
Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area . Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.
-- acrylic paint and ultra fine brushes
