Within Reach

There's always going to be someone better than you. There's always going to be that person who's smarter, has a bigger house, has more money, has a better car, wears better clothes, and is way more beautiful than you.... that's something along the lines of what my step-dad told me one day after basketball practice when I was really discouraged about the new freshman post player that was built like a rhino and was able to plow right through me all practice long. Not to mention, she was an amazing player. Needless to say, I was feeling pretty crappy and weak at the time. Looking back at it now though, I think I really like that advice he gave me. *nod*

This year I want to do a lot of things differently. Well, there were a lot of things I was going to have to do differently anyway, so... why not? I've finally decided on what I want to do. My ambition is to be an artist. In order to do that, I'm going to have to try a lot harder this year in school. I want to be able to paint, even though I've hated trying to paint so far. I want to learn how to draw everything I want. I really love drawing and creating things.... I suppose I must admit I have some talent in art. I may not ever work for disney or inspire the world, but maybe I can touch some of it with what I've been given....

There's always going to be those art 8-year old prodigies like Kieron Williamson. And I'll still feel amazed and envious every time I look at crazy good art from people way younger than me, but this is what I've got to work with. Whether I was given five, three, or even one talent, it's up to me to multiply it. I won't just bury it in the dirt anymore. *nod*

This year I'm pushing the envelope! A good scholarship is what I'm aiming for, since my family really doesn't have the funds to back me up much. Hopefully through basketball and good grades I'll be able to get a scholarship, but that's going to take a lot more practice and studying... especially since I've only really been playing basketball for three years now. But if that doesn't work out, I'll find some other way to pay for school....

Anyway, that was the main idea of this picture here. Well... mainly what I was thinking when I drew it up.... ^_^; *shrug*

I really like stars.
