In all my years of drawing horses, I've never drawn a mare giving birth before. So I thought it was about time I did.

While watching Spirit, I couldn't help but notice how unnaturally CLEAN his birth was. Birth is NOT a clean process. There's blood, fluids, placenta...

I've also noticed quite a few birth-pictures where the mare is just nonchalantly looking over like 'oh, look...I'm having a baby. That's nice...' when in actuality, I hear the process is extremely painful. EXTREMELY.

Now, I've never given birth (hell, I've never even been on a date! XD) but I've watched many animals give birth, and I'm pretty sure it hurts. Can you imagine an 8-pound larvae ripping it's way out of your womanly place?

Now imagine that larvae is a foal.

Ouch.

I'm also aware that most mares don't roll while giving birth. I added that for dramatic effect. But I think I pretty much captured how Spirit's birth would have REALLY looked like if these movie companies weren't afraid to show kids the truth.

Oh, sure...plop an 8-year old in front of a videogame where he could blow some guy's brains out with an advanced weapon, but heaven forbid they should see a baby being born....

Rant over.
