Because all anthropomorphic guitars should be named Johnny. :I
I understand that his strings would most likely be on the front of him, BUT the were more convenient lining his spine. Also, despite his tail looks like it's plugged into his butt there, it's connected onto his spine like anything else's tail would be. XD The other end, however can be plugged into an amp and (if he doesn't punch your lights out for doing so) you can play him like you would any guitar. XD You may wanna ask the amp about that too...
